Mindless Politicians

I am convinced that 99.9% of politicians today are absolutely clueless, you might even say, mindless.  Awhile back, I wrote a post about Mindless Voters.  The gist of that post outlined my disgust for people who vote strictly along party lines, don’t research candidates, etc; this post is it’s counterpart.

I’ll state openly that I don’t vote for either party on a regular basis.  I really consider myself an independent, thoughtful voter.  Maybe that’s why the state of politics in this great country of ours is so depressing.

Looking back at the midterm elections from 2010, we saw the Republican party blasting President Obama and the Democratic part for spending time on a health care reform (HCR) bill.  The common thought amongst the anti-HCR crowd was “why are we spending time on health care reform when our economy is in the toilet”.  Of course, at the time, I agreed with those statements.  Does health care need reformed?  Sure, I think there are many aspects of health care that need attention.  Should it have been the top priority for the first half of President Obama’s first term in office? In my opinion, absolutely not.

Funny, how things work in politics.  Here we are, months after the Republican party storms 2010 midterms, and what is on the Republican agenda? Yep, you guessed it, repealing the HCR bill.  Why aren’t we working on the economy again?  Oh that’s right, it’s better to settle a political pissing contest instead of actually focusing on the important things going on in America right now.  I’m sure there are Republicans out there who will say such things like “well, we can’t pay for the health care bill so this is helping the economy”.  Wrong.  The economy hit the skids well before the HCR bill was on the table.  The economy is showing signs of a slow recovery, depending on which outlets you read, but much more could be done.

I’m upset with both parties.  First, President Obama and the Democratic party should not have spent the energy on HCR at the point in time in which they did.  Second, the Republicans are being completely hypocritical in their actions.  To use an analogy, it’s a case of “the pot calling the kettle black”.  You chastise Democratic leadership for wasting time on the HCR bill, only to turn around and do the exact same thing post-election.

Bottom line, we have numerous mindless voters electing mindless politicians.  When you think about it, it’s no wonder our political system is in disarray.  I really can’t emphasize this any more, but all of us smart folks must unite and overcome this madness.

This advice goes to everyone:

  • Take your right to vote seriously
  • Research your candidates
  • Run for office – we need more people who are willing to serve their constituents; not those looking to become career politicians.
