Grilling

I love to cook.  I love to cook on the grill.  I grill nearly year-round.  I grew up using charcoal grills, but the last 7+ years I’ve been using gas grills almost exclusively.

Sure, charcoal grills probably have a better flavor.  However, any fairly new gas grill cooks so well I doubt most people would even notice the difference; unless you’re smoking food for long hours.

I bought a Char-Broil grill 3-5 years ago and it has been one of the best grills I’ve ever owned.  After years of use, I was in the market for a replacement.  The burners were rusting out and I didn’t want to pay to replace the burners.  But, as I was looking around for a new grill, I remembered to check my warranty.  Fortunately, the commercial grade grill I purchased had a lifetime warranty on the stainless steel burners.

After a quick call to Char-Broil, I got my replacement parts on their way.  I do have to wait a few weeks, but I’m only out 20 bucks to try and install replacement parts; instead of ~$200 (or more) for a new grill.

While I wait for my parts, I did go ahead and buy a smaller charcoal grill/smoker as a backup/additional grill.  As previously mentioned, I hadn’t used charcoal in awhile and it was definitely nice to get the feel of using charcoal again on a regular basis.

That said, I totally forgot how much time and extra work a charcoal grill requires.  I honestly think I’ll only use my charcoal grill when I want to smoke something or when I run out of propane unexpectedly.  The ease of use and saved time with gas is easily worth it, especially since the flavor of the food isn’t diminished significantly enough to justify using charcoal on a daily basis.
