I was wondering why everyone assumed Bourjos was the automatic starter in the first place. And Tavares? The kid hasn’t played a lick at this level yet. AND, both these guys coming off of not exactly minor injuries. Any Cards fan remembers how long JD Drew took to “get right” from his wrist injury and an ankle injury to a guy you weren’t even sure could play CF to begin with? Matheny is right, Jay is still going to be a significant part of CF unless your best case scenarios play out for Bourjos and Tavares. Jay may be the odd man out and become a trade candidate mid-season if that happens, but not anytime sooner.
