Clemente may be my favorite non-Cardinal player of all-time. Great ballplayer, but an amazing person who died on a plane trip, on this day in 1972, to deliver earthquake aid to Nicaragua. I remember reading that for the first time on a baseball card as a young kid. I always thought that was an amazing display of character and I’ve liked the guy ever since.
