Social media observations after 2+ years off of Facebook…
Facebook: Same place it was when I left. An overall negative vibe and an INTENSE echo chamber due to the ability to share/re-share repeatedly. However, it’s where most people are at and you get more interaction/conversation on here which is great for sports, events, etc. The marketplace has all but made Craigslist, et al worthless. The groups and events pieces are also strong ties keeping people on FB. The main reason I returned is that I did miss talking with SOME peeps on here.
Instagram: Best of the social media. An overall positive vibe, beautiful photography, killer meme action, and less repetitiveness (no re-sharing/posting); which means more original content. I spent most of my time away posting there and was hoping to just be ahead of the curve. Unfortunately, Facebook is hooked too deep into the culture and there just isn’t much interaction/discussion. And, I can’t stress enough how killer the meme game is on IG.
Snapchat: Bizarre as hell getting started. Seriously, the weirdest fucking app behavior ever. However, it has grown on me quite a bit. Totally hilarious and reminds me of the early days of social media where people didn’t give a damn. Overall positive vibe on there as the content is mostly original and everyone is really just fucking off on there.
If you ever get tired of the on here, I would highly recommend branching out to other corners of the social media world. It is definitely a more enjoyable experience!
