Well, after this weekend’s games, we’ll be approximately 25 games into the still young season. As of right now, the Cards are 15-7, and looking pretty good. Kyle Lohse is probably the most disappointing player on the team at the moment. He has no wins and an ERA over six and a half. Well, and Joe Mather has been awful on the mound too…lol, just kidding, Mather stepped up and did pretty well in the 20 inning game. Seriously, outside of Lohse, the rest of the bunch has played extremely well.
I was really worried about all the young guys we’d be counting on this year, as well as the pitching staff as a whole. However, the pitching staff has been better than expected. Garcia and Penny have been superb, and the bullpen has been very solid. Obviously, we have a long way to go, but you have to like what we’ve seen to this point from the pitching staff. The young guys have been performing all over the field. Rasmus and Freese have been hitting extremely well too, to go along with good pitching from McClellan, Motte, and Garcia.
And, along with the young guns, Pujols, Holliday, Carpenter, Wainwright and the rest of the veteran crew; are doing work too!
I’m going to keep hoping for a good, strong, healthy season for the Redbirds. I think if we keep playing like we have, and with everyone improving throughout the year; we’ll be a tough out come the playoffs.
