Sports Abyss

Yep, it’s getting to be that time of year…the sports abyss.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.  The Super Bowl is barely over a week away, college and NBA basketball, hockey, etc are all occurring right now.

Sure.  The Super Bowl is right around the corner, but what happens after that?  Honestly, does anybody watch the NBA on a regular basis?  I sure don’t.  I keep an ear to the college basketball scene, but I definitely don’t watch college basketball every night.  I do love to watch the NCAA tournament though…imagine if we had one of those for football too…oh, but I digress.

Anyways, I’m sure this all boils down to personal preference of sports, but c’mon, the dead space between the Super Bowl and March Madness is clearly the worst time of year if you’re a sports fan.  I guess if you’re a die hard basketball or hockey fan, then maybe this time of year is good for you.

Moving on…Yes, I know pitchers and catchers report  and baseball gets underway very soon.  However, does anyone get stoked over pre-season anything?  Again, I sure don’t.  I do love the start of baseball season.  I love baseball…period.  Football is gradually becoming “America’s Pastime” but that doesn’t matter to me.  As great as the NFL is and will become, baseball will always be number one.  Still, that doesn’t solve my quandary with regard to this time of year.  Baseball does begin, but it is still a few months away from gathering my full attention.

Sports are an increasingly big portion of my entertainment spending; in both time and money.  I spend a lot of time and money each year to watch my favorite sporting events and teams.  When the “abyss” hits, I’m usually looking for something to do.  Of course, the weather in the midwest during this time of year is brutal; so I’m pretty much stuck indoors to boot.  Great.  Stuck indoors with nary a sport to watch.

What do I do? Well, it’s the perfect time to type up a blog post, work on a website project, dream about a summer trip to baseball heaven (aka Busch Stadium watching the Cardinals), or doing other more productive things with my time.  How do you pass the time during this dreadfully boring sports abyss?
